Cora Unashamed

Tentative Schedule

 

Day 1--            Mindsprint:  Sometimes, no matter what the consequences, people have to

speak their minds.  Write about a time when you (or someone you know) spoke out when you (or he/she) were not supposed to.  Describe the situation.  What happened?  Who was involved?  What was the outcome? 

 

                        In small groups (2-3 students each) students will share their responses.

                        One person from each group will then report to the class his group’s

                                    Opinions.

                        Distribute copies of the poem “I, too” and complete the response prompt

Day 2--            Students will make guesses as to what they think the title means and what

                                    The story is about.

                        Read “Cora Unashamed” aloud in class

 

Day 3--            Finish reading “Cora Unashamed”

                        Mindsprint:  What is your response to this story?  Take a few minutes to

write down your first impressions which may include any thoughts, feelings, questions or opinions.  You should be able to elaborate and explain your ideas on the basis of the story itself, your own experiences and other literary works that you have read.

                        Homework:  complete review questions (handout)

 

Day 4--            Discuss review questions

                        Introduce “Literature Portrait Group Project Assignment” (handout)

                        Divide the class into groups

                        Begin working

 

Day 5--            Group Project Work Day

 

Day 6--            Presentation of projects

 

Day 7--            Video

 

Day 8--            Video
