Sentence Building with Dr. Seuss

Introduction: Sometimes sentences are supposed to be simple; just look at children’s books. What would happen if children’s authors such as Dr. Seuss used more mature sentences? To show me that you are skilled sentence builders, we are going to find out. In groups, you are going to build on the phrases and sentences of Dr. Seuss to rewrite one of his books. We will use One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish.

As you probably know, Dr. Seuss almost always rhymes. In order for each group to build good sentences, it’s important to remember your sentences may not rhyme anymore.

How do I build a sentence? You can add a variety of details to build sentences. Remember, DO NOT change the meaning, just add to it.
