SCRAPBOOK PROJECT

During the course of this year, you will be working on the scrapbook project. The scrapbook will be arranged by months and will be a lasting record of your year at Century High School. Every month you will collect visual mementos of your year at CHS: ticket stubs, pictures, programs, receipts, etc. You will also collect current pictures, articles, headlines, or advertisements from magazines or newspapers of current events. Each piece of memorabilia must be accompanied by two paragraphs (a minimum of four sentences per paragraph) of writing about the memento. Your scrapbook will run September through May.

Six scrapbook entries per month are the minimum but feel free to add as much as you want. You must have at least one societal item (newspaper/magazine pictures and articles) per month.

We will use at least two class days each month for "Scrapbook Day," and you may use class time to work on your scrapbook. On "Scrapbook Day" I will take a 10-point grade for all students who bring their scrapbooks and materials to work on in class. (I reserve the right to cancel "Scrapbook Days.") I will tell you in advance when we will have scrapbook days.

Students not working on their scrapbook will lose their 10 points possible for each "Scrapbook Day."

Students not brining scrapbooks will also have to do other work. This work will not be graded but incompletion will result in another 10-point loss form your total accumulated quarter points.

GOALS:

  1. To create a meaningful remembrance from your school year.
  2. To demonstrate your writing, thinking, researching, and reading skills.
  3. To organize your time for a long-term project. YOU CANNOT CUT ALL OF THE ARTICLES AND PICTURES FROM ONE EDITION OF ONE NEWSPAPER. Each page must reflect the event of the month and come from different print sources.

GRADING:

  1. When evaluating the scrapbook each month, I will look for a balance between personal and societal items (10 points) the relevance of the remembrances (Do the societal items convey important events of the month? Do the person items convey important events of the month for you?) (5 points), originality/thoughtfulness (5 points), neatness (10 points), correct number of entries with required amount of writing (20 points). A total of 50 points can be earned each month when the scrapbook is collected.
  2. Ten points will be given every "scrapbook Day" for work efforts and participation.
  3. In addition, a final grade for organization and overall impression will be given in May. Your final scrapbook grade will be worth 200 points.
