Poetry Book Requirements
Using the poems you have written during our poetry unit, you should create a poetry book. It should be creative, neat, and well planned. This project is worth 180 points. All of the pages should be typed. You will not receive credit for any item that is not typed.
You must have a creative cover for the poetry book and then inside of your book you should have the following things in this order:
1) a title page (title of book, by, your name)
2) a table of contents.
3) a letter to your readers (instructions on next page).
4) the initial reaction to poetry that was written the first day of the poetry unit.
5) the poems written during the poetry unit.
i) Childhood memory poem
ii) Parent poem
iii) Sports poem
iv) Free-write poem
v) Robert Hayden poem
vi) Heritage Poem
The following grading scale will be used to grade your poetry project:
The cover is creative, colorful, and neat and it reflects
your poems 4 8 12 16 20
Correct, neat title page 1 2 3 4 5
Correct, neat table of contents 2 4 6 8 10
Thorough, proofread letter to your readers 4 8 12 16 20
Contains initial reaction to poetry 1 2 3 4 5
Contains all five poems 20 40 60 80 100
The book is creative, colorful, and has neat design 4 8 12 16 20
Throughout the book
You will receive a score of zero for any item that is omitted from your poetry book.

Book Letter to Readers Instructions
At
the beginning of your poetry book, I would like for you to include a letter to
the readers of your poetry book. It
should look like a letter with a date, greeting, and closing.
In
your letter, you should do the following:
1.
Introduce
yourself to the readers is if they know nothing about you. Minimum of 8
sentences.
2.
Discuss
the poem you wrote that is your favorite and describe why it’s your favorite.
Minimum of 3 sentences.
3.
Discuss
the poem you wrote that is your least favorite and describe why it’s your least
favorite. Minimum of 3 sentences.
4.
Discuss
what you have learned about poetry during this unit. Minimum of 3 sentences.
5.
Discuss
what you have learned about yourself as a poet while writing the poems in this
book. Minimum of 3 sentences.
