Journal Requirements

50 pts.

All assigned journal entries must be in the journal each time the journal is collected. Full credit will not be received if journal entries are removed- even if they were in the journal at a previous time the journal was collected. All entries must be in the journal at the time of the last collection.

Each journal entry must be about the assigned journal topic. If you write off topic the entry will not count.

The journal must be ready to collect on each collection date. No advance notice will be given before the journal is collected. If you are writing in the journal during the class time that is allotted for this, you should be ready to turn your journal in at the time it is asked for.

Journal entries should be made honestly. Write how you feel at that very moment. Do not re-write journal entries after you have had time to think about the journal topics outside of class or among other classmates.

You are not being graded on grammar; however, I expect better grammar and better writing as we move through the school year. Excessively bad grammar and bad writing will be subject to a deduction in your grade. You can use a dictionary if you want.

When you get to free write, do NOT write about things that would be considered inappropriate. This, of course, is a judgement call, but I trust that you will be able to determine what is appropriate and what is not. If you have questions you should ask.

When I collect your journals I will read every entry and I will respond as needed. It may not be necessary for me to respond to each entry. Some of my responses may be in the form of a question and I do expect you to respond back to me on the page containing my question. Other responses I make are free of charge to you- they are for my benefit, your benefit, and possibly your amusement. Yes, hopefully, some entries and responses can carry a light tone.

I hope you enjoy journal writing. Your thoughts are of great value to me and I will do what I can to earn your trust as you will occasionally be making entries that are very personal to you.
