6 Ways to gain your audience’s attention

Read introductions to several essays

HW: Using one of the six techniques, write an introduction on the topic: “The importance of family.”

Day Two:

Introduction Due

Review the 6 techniques for an effective introduction

Peer edit and revise introductions

Discuss effective conclusions

Review ISAT writing rubric for expository essay

Day Three:

Expository Essays – how to set them up

HW: Select a topic and write an introduction. Begin writing body of essay.

Topic choices are: The qualities needed to be a good son or daughter, Life as an 8^th grader, What makes an action movie a good one, the sacrifices your parents make for you, or which teacher should receive teacher of the year award.

Day Four:

Continue writing essay

Completed rough draft due tomorrow

Review 6 ways to write an effective introduction

Day Five:

Rough draft of essay due today

Write an expository essay as a class
